What Does HARK Do?

When a child is hospitalized. coping with anxiety, fear and unfamiliar experiences can be overwhelming. Art, in its many forms, becomes an outlet for self-expression unlike any other therapy in the hospital.

Ongoing research at CHLA demonstrates that art, music and dance/movement therapy guided by board-certified professionals has significant medical benefits, including:

  • Decreased stress and anxiety
  • Lowered blood pressure
  • Increased coping skills and self-awareness
  • Minimized pain perception
  • Improved treatment compliance and communication with staff
  • Strengthened family bonding and attachment

While music, art and dance/ movement therapy make meaningful impact on patient care, they are not covered by insurance. Thank you for joining HARK and friends in supporting the Artists Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

By directly donating to HARK on our website or through the mail by check, your donation goes to buy more art and music supplies. As a 501(c3)Hark does not pay its members for services. We are volunteers.
